The shortlisted artists for the third edition of BMW Art Journey – an artist travel grant supported by Art Basel and BMW – has been announced during Art Basel Hong Kong. The three artists, all showing in ABHK’s Discoveries sector, are Abigail Reynolds (Rokeby Gallery, London), Newsha Tavakolian (Thomas Erben Gallery, New York) and Alvin Zafra (Artinformal, Mandaluyong City). They will each have to submit a proposal for their journey project, and the winner will be announced early summer 2016.
Launched in 2015, the prize is presented twice a year to an artist showing within the Discoveries sector in Hong Kong, and within Positions in Miami Beach (winners of the Miami edition are Henning Fehr and Philipp Rühr). This edition’s jury includes Richard Armstrong, director Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, Claire Hsu, director Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong, Matthias Mühling, director Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich, Bose Krishnamachari, president Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India and Pauline J. Yao, curator visual art M+, Hong Kong.
