Hangzhou-based artist Li Ming has been selected by a team of 12 nominators and five jury members as the winner of the third edition of Hugo Boss’s Asia Art Award. Predominantly working with video and video installations, Li presents a new work, Rendering the Mind (2017) at the Hugo Boss Asia Art Award exhibition at Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai (on through 11 February 2018). Li was chosen from a group of four finalists including Tao Hui (China), Yu Ji (China) and Robert Zhao Renhui (Singpore). The award, which focuses on artists from Greater China and Southeast Asia, comes with a cash prize of RMB 300,000 (approximately £34,200).
In a statement, Larys Frogier, director of Rockbund Art Museum has commented on Li’s work: ‘His oevre constitutes one of the most meaningful and advanced contemporary visual creations that brilliantly combine performance, video and sound. His artworks have enriched the field of media and engendered a unique sensitivity of making time and space profuse with infinite possibilities of meaning.’
