The shortlist for the Artes Mundi, the UK’s most lucrative art award, has been announced. Firelei Báez of the Dominican Republic, Dineo Seshee Bopape of South Africa, Meiro Koizumi of Japan, Beatriz Santiago Muñoz of Puerto Rico, Praphakar Pachpute of India and Carrie Mae Weems of the USA are in the running for the £40,000 prize fund.
An exhibition of the shortlist will open in September 2020, the winner announced in January 2021. In a break from the previous years the same jurors who selected the shortlist, Cosmin Costinas, executive director of Para Site, Hong Kong, Elvira Dyangani-Ose, director of The Showroom gallery in London and Rachel Kent, chief curator at Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, will also pick the winner.
