National Museums of Scotland staff members are almost halfway through a week-long strike to protest the museum’s removal of a weekend allowance for staff members who joined after 2011, the BBC reports. Officials said the withdrawal of the allowance has caused a difference in pay of up to £2,000 – £3,000 between individuals who joined before and after 2011.
The strikes coincide with the Edinburgh Festival, culturally the busiest time of the year, and follows a previous two-day strike that closed the National Museum of Scotland and the National War Museum in April.
