the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (or Museum MACAN) will be the first contemporary art institution in Indonesia. An initiative of Indonesian philanthropist and collector Haryanto Adikoesoemo, the 4,000sqm-museum will present the public with an international collection (with more than 800 prominent modern and contemporary art pieces), public programmes, and frequent temporary exhibitions. Adikoeseomo also appointed Dr. Thomas J. Berghuis, formerly curator of Chinese art at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, to head the new institution.
A soft launch is schedule for 2016, and the grand opening is planned for early 2017.
