Cuban-born curator Eugenio Valdés Figueroa has been announced as the new director and chief curator of the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation in Miami.
A curator and art critic, Valdés Figueroa served as the cocurator of the Havana Biennial from 1990 to 1997, and also collaborated as cocurator and lecturer for several international biennials including Dakar, Tirana, Istanbul and Johannesburg. Most recently, Valdés Figueroa held the position of art and education director of the Swiss foundation Casa Daros, Daros-Latinamerica in Rio de Janeiro, where he worked with a wide range of artists, including Ernesto Neto, Julio Le Parc, Oscar Muñoz, Juan Manuel Echavarría and Vik Muniz.
