Carsten Recksik has been appointed Publisher at ArtReview Ltd. Recksik starts in his role today and has commercial responsibility for all the brand’s activities across the print publications ArtReview and ArtReview Asia, as well as digital platforms and live events. He will be based in the company’s London headquarters. Recksik joins ArtReview Ltd from Frieze magazine, where he was associate publisher with responsibility for publishing and marketing in the UK and Asia.

Having studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg and Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Recksik practiced as an artist and curated or cocurated exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Arts London, the German Embassy in London, Modern Art Oxford and the European Commission London. He has also acted as project manager for various galleries including Haus der Kunst in Munich and Hauser & Wirth London, overseeing the organisation of shows by Andreas Gursky, Ai Weiwei, Paul McCarthy, Ellsworth Kelly and Pierre Huyghe.

Founded in 1949, ArtReview is one of the world’s leading international contemporary art magazines, dedicated to expanding contemporary art’s audience and reach. ArtReview Asia, founded in 2013, explores the diversity of artistic expression across the world’s largest continent and looks at the societal role art plays in an Asian context. Aimed at both a specialist and a general audience, ArtReview and ArtReview Asia feature a mixture of criticism, reviews, reportage and specially commissioned artworks, and offer the most established, in-depth and intimate portrait of international contemporary art in all its shapes and forms. Innovative products developed by ArtReview and ArtReview Asia include the annual Power 100 issue, an exploration of the structures driving the contemporary art world, and Future Greats, a guide to artists on the verge of breaking through to wider audiences. In addition to artreview.com, which provides news, reviews, opinion, video and content from the magazines, ArtReview runs a broad range of live events both onsite and globally, including talks programmes, curating and consulting services.

In June 2019 ArtReview was majority-acquired by Modern Media, China’s leading high-end communications group. In joining a multimedia publishing organisation that includes The Art Newspaper China, LEAP, Modern Weekly, Nowness and Numéro, among other titles, ArtReview will be expanding to new platforms and greatly increasing its exposure to audiences worldwide.
