Ingrid Sischy, the South-African-born writer and former editor of both Artforum and Interview, lost her battle against breast cancer on Friday, age 63, Artforum reports. During her tenure at Artforum from 1979–1988 and at Interview from 1989–2008, she was instrumental in transforming both publications, not only by covering artists, actors, fashion designers and musicians at the forefront of New York’s and the wider world’s expanding arts scene and by giving artists and critics a platform to write inside the magazines, but also by creating iconic covers.
Among other writings Sischy reported on art and fashion for the New Yorker and was a contributing editor to Vanity Fair from 1997 until her death.
