The annual Wein Prize, administered by the Studio Museum Harlem, and awarded to an African-American artist, has been given to Nigerian-born, LA-based Njideka Akunyili Crosby, in recognition of her talent and global reach. The $50,000 prize was established in 2006 by George Wein, in honour of his late wife, Joyce Alexander Wein, who was a trustee of the museum. Previous winners include Lorna Simpson, Glenn Ligon and Trenton Doyle Hancock.
