The Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona (MACBA) has appointed Ferran Barenblit as its new director, The Art Newspaper reports. Head of the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M) contemporary art museum in Móstoles near Madrid since 2008, Barenblit previously ran Contemporary Barcelona gallery Centre d’Art Santa Mònica, from 2002 to 2008.
Barenblit takes up the position following the resignation of former director of MACBA Bartomeu Marí in March, after a censorship row over a controversial installation by Ines Doujak showing a former Spanish king in a sexual act with a dog, and which was included in the exhibition The Beast and the Sovereign (until 30 August).
