Earlier this year, Mexico City’s Museo Jumex cancelled an exhibition of works by Viennese actionist Hermann Nitsch without any explanation – although it appeared directly linked to an online petition against the artist’s practice (allegedly involving animal slaughter) and requesting the cancelation of his show.
The show will get a second chance though, this time in Sicily, where the Museo Zac ai Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa has agreed to host the exhibition this summer, the Art Newspaper reports. Titled The Orgies Mysteries Theatre (10 July-20 September), the show will include 40 canvases, numerous photos, as well as videos documenting some of Nitsch’s most important actions over the past few decades.
