In February 2017 a new Internet domain, .art, will be launched with the aim of preserving ‘the cultural legacy of the global art world.’ With more than 60 museums and arts organisations (including Art Institute of Chicago, Centre Pompidou, Fondation Beyeler, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Tate) preparing to adopt .art, professional members of the artworld will be able to register for domain names with priority over the general public, who will be able to register from summer 2017.
