The first place of the 2016 Skyscraper Competition organised by eVolvo Magazine has been awarded to Yitan Sun and Jianshi Wu’s project for Central Park in New York. The award, attributed annually since 2006, recognises large-scale, ambitious projects that ‘challenge the way we understand vertical architecture and its relationship with the natural and built environments’. Titled New York Horizon, the imagined design projects a sunken Central Park, surrounded by a 300-metre-tall glass skyscraper for housing, revealing the geological formations beneath the park.

At the second place is a vertical control terminal for advanced flying drones deisgned by Hadeel Ayed Mohammad, Yifeng Zhao, and Chengda Zhu, while the third place goes to Valeria Mercuri and Marco Merletti for a sustainable skyscraper in Iceland designed for Internet servers.
