Thierry Raspail has announced he will be leaving his role as director of MAC Lyon and the Lyon Biennale, Le Monde reports. He will step down on 13 April.
Raspail has been at the helm of the museum since its creation in 1984. In 1991, he launched the Lyon Biennale. After curating the first three editions, he invited international curators, including Harald Szeemann, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Nicolas Bourriaud, Hou Hanru, Ralf Rugoff and most recently, Emma Lavigne, to curate subsequent iterations.
Prior to joining the museum, Raspailworked at the Grenoble Museum of Contemporary Art and the Musée National in Bamako, Mali. Over the course of his career, Raspail has curated solo exhibitions by artists including Andy Warhol, Robert Combas, Joseph Kosuth, Louise Bourgeois, Nicolas Cage & Erik Satie, Huang Yong Ping, Latifa Echakhch and Gustav Metzger.
MAC Lyon has already started the recruitment process and will announce Raspail’s successor during the course of the summer.
