Dutch art collector and president of TEFAF in Maastricht Willem Baron van Dedem has died at the age of 86, Artnet reports. Van Dedem had been involved with the art fair since 1997, when he took on a lead role on the board of trustees, eventually becoming president. Due to the success of his company Union Tank Eckstein (a road toll and fuel card business for international transport), he was able to pursue his passion for Dutch Old Master painting by building his own collection, including works by Rembrandt, Pieter Claesz and Adriaen Coorte. Over the years, Van Dedem also made important donations to London’s National Gallery and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
