Maria Lind, director of Tensta Kunsthall in Stockholm since 2011 and regular columnist at ArtReview, has been announced as the artistic director for the next Gwangju Biennale, scheduled for 2016.
With an MA in art history and Russian from Stockholm University, Lind served as a curator at Moderna Museet in Stockholm (1997–2001) and a board member at IKT (2006–2011), and won the Walter Hopps Award for curatorial achievement in 2009, while participating in large-scale international art events such as Manifesta 2 (1998), the Sweden Hall in São Paulo Bienal (2002) and the 1st Vienna Biennale Special Exhibition (2015). She will be succeeding to Jessica Morgan, whose previous edition Burning Down the House is reviewed here.
11th Gwangju Biennale will be taking place from 2 September – 6 November, 2016.
