Wim Pijbes to step down as director of the Rijksmuseum

The director of the Rijksmuseum, Wim Pijbes, has announced he will be stepping down from the post after working with the flagship Amsterdam museum for eight years, reports the New York Times. Having overseen the renovation and expansion of the museum, through to its successful opening in 2013, Pijbes says he feels ‘a kind of cycle has been fulfilled’. He will be leaving on 1 August 2016 to begin working on the opening of Museum Voorlinden, a new start-up contemporary art space on the Dutch coast.

3 March 2016.
