Plymouth’s £4.2 million Ocean Studios, an artist complex set in the renovated, Grade-I listed, Royal William Yard naval buildings on the city’s waterfront, was inaugurated this week, Artlyst reports. Tate director Nicholas Serota, who officiated the ceremony, said it represents a ‘critical step in the regeneration of Plymouth’ and the Devon area.
Cofounded by Leigh Mason and Jennifer Jayarajah, the space includes more than 30 individual studios, an open working space for artists with various workshops, as well as an exhibition space, where the first exhibition is set to open on 4 August. Titled A Taste of Things To Come it will feature works by Richard Deacon, Bill Woodrow, Mary Kelly, Hew Locke, Gillian Wearing and Grayson Perry.
