Francis Alÿs wins Eye Art & Film Prize

Belgian-born, Mexico-based conceptual artist Francis Alÿs has been announced the winner of the Eye Art & Film Prize, honouring artists working at the intersection of film and visual art. He will receive £25,000.

Alÿs was selected by an international jury chaired by Sandra den Hamer, director of the Eye Filmmuseum, including: fashion designer and art collector Agnès B.; Solange Farkas, director and curator of Associação Cultural Videobrasil; Andrea Lissoni, senior curator international art (film), Tate Modern; artist Aernout Mik; Olivia Stewart, board member PJLF Arts Fund, filmmaker, producer; and artist and filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

The Eye Art & Film Prize was launched in 2015 by Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam and the Paddy & Joan Leigh Fermor Arts Fund. Work by the winners of the three previous editions – Hito Steyerl (2015), Ben Rivers (2016) and Wang Bing (2017) – is currently on view at the Eye Filmmuseum, through 27 May (read our review here)
