Suad Garayeva-Maleki has been appointed the new artistic director of Yarat Contemporary Art Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan. She replaces Bjorn Geldhof, who will return full-time as artistic director of the Pinchuk Art Centre in Kiev.
Garayeva-Maleki has worked at Yarat since 2014 as chief curator, organising exhibitions by artists including Neïl Beloufa, Hannah Black, Oscar Murillo and Shirin Neshat. Established in 2011 by artist Aida Mahmudova, Yarat is a non-profit organisation dedicated to contemporary art, and operates an art centre, a project space, artist studios and residencies, as well as an educational and public programme.
