The Chicago Architecture Biennial has announced Rhode Island-based architecture studio Ultramoderne as the winner of its inaugural Lakefront Kiosk competition. They will receive the BP-sponsored prize, consisting of $10,000 plus $75,000 towards the production of their winning proposal, Chicago Horizon, a wall-less pavilion with a rooftop viewing platform containing a small lending library with architectural books, which will also host events. The kiosk will be located alongside Lake Michigan, which borders Chicago.
Ultramoderne were selected from a shortlist of three teams: Lekker Architects, Tru Architekten, and Kelley, Palider, Paros. The competition is part of a larger programme to install kiosks along the lakefront, overseen by the Biennial.
