Andres Jaque/Office for Political Innovation has been announced as the winner of the 16th edition of the annual Young Architects Program (YAP) in New York. Presented and hosted by The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1, YAP offers emerging architects the opportunity to design a temporary, outdoor installation at MoMA PS1 that provides shade, seating, and water, while addressing environmental concerns, including sustainability and recycling.

Selected among five finalists, Jaque’s project COSMO will serve as a ‘moveable artifact’ with a mission to provide clean water for the world’s population, and is scheduled to open in late June, to coincide with MoMA PS1’s 2015 Warm Up summer music. COSMO will be able to purify 3,000 gallons of water in just four days, and the installation is designed to be an easily replicable offline and online prototype that could potentially provide access to clean drinking water for millions.

6 February 2015.
