Lorenzo Fiaschi, co-director of Les Moulins, San Gimignano and Beijing-based Galleria Continua alongside Mario Cristiani, Maurizio Rigillo, has written an open letter to the attention of the French minister of Culture Fleur Pellerin, questioning her abrupt dismissal of Nicolas Bourriaud as director of the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA).
Leaving aside the rumours of nepotism alleged by Le Canard Enchaîné, the letter however evokes his incomprehension in face of this decision, pointing out that Bouriaud seems like the most qualified person to meet the objectives of ‘cultural diversity’ and ‘an increasing collaboration between cultural educational establishments’ mentioned by the minister in a press release. ‘We have the right to know the real reasons behind your decision’, Fiaschi asserts, advising that ‘in these difficult times for France and Europe, democracy, justice and exemplariness must be at the core of any political authority’.
