Chris Wainwright, artist, curator and Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Arts London, has died. Afterall, a research centre and publication for UAL, based at Central Saint Martins in London, confirmed the news. Wainwright taught at international universities and colleges throughout his career, as a visiting or guest lecturer, as well as a course leader and dean, at a long list of institutions including Glasgow School of Art, Korea National University of Arts, Nottingham Trent, and Erasmus University and Boymans Museum in Rotterdam.
As a practising artist, his interests lay in environmental photography, performance and installations; his most recent solo exhibitions include: We Are All Stars at Nihonbashi Institute of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Japan, 2016; First and Last at Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, Taiwan, 2015; Points of Departure at Fotografins Huis, Stockholm, Sweden, 2014; and A Catalogue of Errors at The Diawa Foundation, London, 2013. His works, held in various institutions, can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum, Arts Council of England (both London), Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris and Polaroid Corporation, Boston, USA.
