Frances Stark and Mark Godfrey have been announced as winners of the 2015 Absolut Art Awards, by Jury President Massimiliano Gioni.
As winner in the ‘Art Work’ category, Frances Stark will receive a cash prize of €20,000, with an additional €100,000 to produce and exhibit a new artwork or project. Stark was selected for her proposal to create a ‘hip-hop opera’ of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
As winner in the ‘Art Writing’ category, Mark Godfrey will receive also receive a €20,000 prize, complemented by a budget of €25,000 for the development and publication of a new art publication, in collaboration with a leading publishing house. Mark’s winning proposal aimed to edit an anthology dedicated to ‘The Black Art Debate’ and African American art in the 1960s and 70s.
