‘I always said I would never open another branch abroad but then this opportunity came up and it was too good to pass up’, Parisian contemporary art dealer Kamel Mennour tells The Art Newspaper. Mennour, who opened his gallery in Paris in 1999, has announced he will be opening a small gallery (60sqm) in London’s Mayfair. Located at 51 Brook Street, the new space will open on 4 October with a solo show by Latifa Echakhch.

Mennour is not the only one to invest in a new space in the financial capital despite the Brexit vote. Among other European dealers are Brussel-based Almine Rech, who announced the opening of a second ground-floor showroom in Mayfair, in addition to her Savile Row gallery opened in 2014; Swedish, New York-based dealer Per Skarstedt, who is inaugurating it second space at 8 Bennet Street in St James’s with two shows by Cindy Sherman and David Salle; and Thaddaeus Ropac will be opening a five-floor London outpost on Dover Street next Spring.

9 September 2016.
