James Taylor-Foster has been appointed executive director of the Hong Kong art centre Para Site, following the departure of Billy Tang last year.

Taylor-Foster is a curator and writer whose projects have traced queer belonging, investigating how creativity meets technology and popular culture, and exploring the city as an expressive body. His exhibitions include Worldglimpsing, ArkDes/Moderna Museet, Stockholm, 2025–26; WEIRD SENSATION FEELS GOOD: The World of ASMR, ArkDes/The Design Museum, London, 2022–23; Watch and Chill 2.0: Streaming Senses, MMCA, Seoul, Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah, ArkDes, Stockholm, 2022; Cruising Pavilion: Architecture, Gay Sex, and Cruising Culture, ArkDes, Stockholm, 2019. He co-organised the exhibitions for the Nordic Countries Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2016 and 2023.

‘Para Site’s role in Hong Kong’s cultural ecosystem – close to the streets, close to the urgencies of our present, committed to new voices and ideas – is matched by its resonance regionally and around the world’, said Taylor-Foster. ‘The organisation’s next chapter will reaffirm this position, emphasising the ways in which art and culture can be key agents of transformation in society. Such transformation often occurs across disciplines through surprising alliances and unlikely solidarities.’
