Launching in September 2023 at the Javits Center in Manhattan
Photofairs has announced an inaugural edition in New York, launching next September.
The New York debut, which will form a counterpart to Photofairs Shanghai – the largest commercial photography fair in the Asia-Pacific region – will run 8 to 10 September 2023 at the Javits Center in Manhattan, and will feature 100 exhibitors across photography, film and VR. It will run concurrent to the Armory Show.
The New York edition will comprise four sections, divided into ‘Galleries’ showing modern and contemporary artists working in photography-based practices; ‘Platform’ which features galleries younger than 8 years old or booth presentations of artists under 35 years old; ‘Screen’ which will be devoted to new media art; and ‘Film’ which will serve as a showcase for filmmaking practices.
Photofairs is organised by events company Creo and trade fair company Angus Montgomery Arts. It will feature a selection committee and advisory group respectively comprised of galleries and collectors from around the world; Meta Media Group (which is a majority shareholder of ArtReview Ltd) will serve as an international partner to the fair.
‘As the birthplace of many pioneering art movements throughout the 20th and 21st centuries and as one of the world’s leading centers for the arts and visual culture, New York City is the natural destination to launch a new edition of PHOTOFAIRS. The city’s distinct energy and reputation for creative innovation and dynamism will be reflected across the Fair’s participating galleries and curated presentations,’ Creo founder and CEO Scott Gray said in a statement.
Applications are now open for exhibitors.
