Following his departure from the role of head of art at Hong Kong’s Tai Kwun, Pi Li has announced that he has joined Róng Museum in Shenzhen as its founding director.
Róng Museum will focus on collecting and presenting global creative practices from the 20th and 21st centuries – from visual art, to design, performance, architecture and digital media. The museum takes its name from the Chinese character meaning to melt and blend, which, according to Pi Li, underscores a ‘philosophy of inclusive coexistence’.
Róng Museum will form a part of the M80, a lifestyle and culture complex developed by Tenova FUTURE. The museum will occupy a total floor area of around 4,500 square metres, with interiors designed by Gluckman Tang Architects.
Located in Shenzhen’s Houhai district, the museum is slated to open in the second half of 2027.
