The adult website’s ‘Classic Nudes’ project enraged galleries after it staged pornographic reenactments of iconic artworks
Pornhub has taken down parts of its just-launched Classic Nudes initiative, billed as an interactive guide to erotic art history. Entries for the Uffizi in Florence, Prado in Madrid and Louvre in Paris have now been removed.
Pornhub launched the project last month with an enticing question: ‘Some people think of museums as boring, stuffy or dull. But what if we told you they housed a collection of priceless porn?’ The Classic Nudes series included audio-tours through famous museums as well as NSFW reenactments of iconic pieces.
However, several museums were less than amused, with the Louvre and Uffizi swiftly threatening to sue for rights infringements. A Louvre spokesperson said at the time: ‘Pornhub has heard from our lawyers. We expect the works to be removed at once.’
Pornhub’s tours of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, London’s National Gallery and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art remain safe for now.
