Born out of the merger of two of Manchester’s cultural institutions (Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company), HOME has opened its doors with its inaugural exhibition titled The Heart is Deceitful.
The exhibition, co-curated by Sarah Perks (HOME’s artistic director for Visual Arts) and Senior visiting curator Omar Kholeif, draws its inspiration from Ödön von Horváth’s play Kasimir and Karoline, and presents works by a dozen contemporary artists including a performance film melodrama by Wu-Tsang (with Alexandro Segade), whose exhibition in Zurich is reviewed in the Summer issue of ArtReview Asia, on sale now; a video installation by 2014 FutureGreat Flaka Haliti, and May 2014 ArtReview cover artist Ragnar Kjartansson‘s 11-metre long neon sign on the stereotypical suffering Nordic artists.
In parallel to the exhibition, HOME will also feature a curated film programme (including UK premiere of films by Rosa Barba and Stanya Kahn), and theatre adaptation of Von Horváth’s play by Simon Stephens.
See here for full details of the programme.
