The Creative City Sapporo International Art Festival Executive Committee has announced musician and composer Otomo Yoshihide will be directing the 2017 edition of the Sapporo International Art Festival 2017 (SIAF2017) in Japan. Titled What is an art festival?, this second edition of the triennial festival will be based on the participation of the citizens of Sapporo, who will be asked to answer the question within the context and traditions of the city itself. ‘If there are 100 people, then there are 100 ideas, and they donʼt have to all face the same direction’, Yoshihide explained in a statement.
Projects will start in April 2016, and include: O-FUROSHIKI Project, Sapporo Collective Orchestra, Sapporo International Art Festival Design Project, Art Festival in the Downtown Project, Public Offering Project -Letʼs Create an Art Festival Together-, and SIAF2017 Artist-In-Residence Project.
