Shamim M. Momin will lead the Bronx Museum as director and chief curator the New York institution.

Momin was most recently director of curatorial affairs at the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle, leaving in 2024 after six years, during which time she worked on shows by Gary Simmons, Kelly Akashi and Diana Al-Hadid, among others. In 2009, Momin cofounded LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division), a non-profit public art organisation that commissions site-specific projects in Los Angeles.

Previously, she was an associate curator of contemporary art for twelve years at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she cocurated the 2004 and 2008 Whitney Biennials.

She takes over from Klaudio Rodriguez, who left the Bronx last August to the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, Florida. Momin arrives as the museum’s south wing is undergoing a $43 million renovation.
