Gabriela Salgado will take the helm of The Showroom in London. The Argentine-born curator, who has been based in Britain since 1995, fills a position left empty for almost a year. Elvira Dyangani Ose, the previous director of the non-profit galley approaching its fortieth year, was appointed artistic director at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona in July last year.
Most recently, Salgado was artistic director of Te Tuhi Contemporary Artin New Zealand (2017–20), where she curated shows for Mexican Raúl Ortega Ayala, Venezuelan-French artist Carlos Cruz-Diez and British artist Gayle Chong Kwan, as well as exhibitions by local artists.
After working for six years at the Latin American Art Collection at Essex University, UECLAA, she moved to become curator of public programmes at Tate Modern (2006–2011). In 2009 she curated the 2nd Biennale of Thessaloniki, Greece, and in 2013 La Otra Bienal, Bogotá.
