The founding director of NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, Ute Meta Bauer, has been replaced with Karin G. Oen.
Located in Gillman Barracks, NTU CCA was established by Bauer in 2013. With a particular interest in ecology, banded together in a research theme titled Climates.Habitats.Environments, Bauer’s exhibitions have included solo shows with Joan Jonas, Tomás Saraceno and Amar Kanwar, as well as group exhibitions The Oceanic (2018) and The Posthuman City (2020). The current show, Climate Crisis and Cultural Loss, is part of a large-scale research project led of the Singaporean Ministry of Education, which Bauer will continue to work on. She will also continue as Senior Principal Investigator for the Climate Transformation Programme and to teach on the MA Museum Studies and Curatorial Practices programme at NTU’s School of Art, Design, and Media (ADM).
Bauer will remain with the institution as a Principal Research Fellow.
Oen, who takes up the top job immediately, was previously Deputy Director, Curatorial Programmes at NTU CCA between 2019 and 2021, leaving to become Senior Lecturer and head of the Art History department at NTU’s School of Humanities, a teaching role she will maintain.
This article was corrected on 32 July 2024 to address that Ute Meta Bauer is stepping down from her role, and remains affiliated as NTU CCA’s Principal Research Fellow
