Valérie Favre wins Prix Meret Oppenheim

Artist Valérie Favre has been awarded the Prix Meret Oppenheim. Born in Switzerland and now working in Berlin and Neuchâtel, Favre works primarily in figurative painting that create mythical, fictional worlds, and has been a professor of painting at the Berlin University of the Arts since 2006. In 2012 she was nominated for the Prix Marcel Duchamp. Her work has been exhibited in institutions including Sprengel Museum Hannover; the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne; and Kunstmuseum Luzern, Lucerne, among many others.Favre wins the award alongside Jacqueline Burckhardt, who is recognised for her work as co-founder and editor of the art magazine Parkett, as well as Marianne Burkhalter and Christian Sumi in the architecture category.

The Swiss Grand Prix Art / Prix Meret Oppenheim has been given since 2001, honouring practitioners in the fields of art, architecture, criticism, publishing or exhibitions. The awards are endowed with CHF 40,000 each. The Swiss Art Awards exhibition at Messe Basel, Hall 1.1, will open on 10 June 2024 and will be on view during Art Basel, 11–16 June 2024.
