The Queens Museum has named Lauren Haynes its director of curatorial affairs and programs. Haynes will depart her role as senior curator at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, to take up the new role in July.
At the Queens Museum, Haynes will head up the curatorial and programs departments while working with the education department. ‘Lauren is an exceptional curator who has spent her career championing artists and working to build a more inclusive canon,’ the museum’s executive director Sally Tallant said in a statement. ‘Her thoughtful vision, combined with her leadership experience, makes her a wonderful addition to the Queens Museum team.’
‘After many years away, I am excited to make my return to New York, where I spent much of my early career, and to contribute towards the incredible and important work the Museum is doing,’ Haynes said.
Prior to her position at the Nasher Museum, where she worked on the exhibition Reckoning and Resilience: North Carolina Art Now as well as the forthcoming show Beyond the Surface: Collage, Mixed Media and Textile Works from the Collection, Haynes had served as curator of contemporary art at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and before that, the Studio Museum in Harlem.
