Prof. Günter Herzog, director of Cologne’s Zentralarchiv des Internationalen Kunsthandels (central archive of the international art trade) (ZADIK) is the recipient of this year’s Art Cologne Prize. The €10,000 prize recognises achievements in the communication of art, and is awarded jointly each year by the German association of galleries and art dealers (BVDG) and the City of Cologne on the ocassion of the Art Cologne art fair. The prize will be awarded at a ceremony on Wednesday, 26 April.
ZADIK archives and makes available the bequests and estates of important companies and individuals in the art business. More than 150 collections are archived, including those of galleries and institutions, collectors, curators, photographers and art critics.
Under Herzog’s direction, the archive has developed collaborations with the documenta archive in Kassel, the documentation centre for contemporary art in Vienna and the Guggenheim Foundation in New York.
