The Cologne Sculpture Park Foundation has named Chus Martínez as the curator of KölnSkulptur # 9. The exhibition, at the Cologne Sculpture Park, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year will open on 15 October 2017. The works presented for KölnSkulptur # 9 will be on view until the summer of 2019.
The Cologne Sculpture Park was established in 1997 by the private initiative of Michael and Eleonore Stoffel. Since then more than 150 works have been commissioned. Artists have included Rosemarie Trockel, Louise Bourgeois, Jenny Holzer, Isa Genzken, Dan Graham, Peter Fischli and David Weis and George Condo.
Chus Martínez currently directs the Art Institute at the University of Art and Design FHNW in Basel, Switzerland. Martínez was Senior Curator at El Museo Del Barrio in New York. From 2008 to 2011 she was chief curator at MACBA in Barcelona, from 2005 to 2008 director of the Frankfurter Kunstverein and from 2002 to 2005 Artistic director of Sala Rekalde in Bilbao. She was head of the department and member of the agent core group of dOCUMENTA (13). For the 51st Venice Biennale she curated the 2005 Cypriot pavilion. 2014/15 she took part in curatorial “Alliance” for the most recent edition of the Istanbul Biennial (2015); In 2008 she worked as a curatorial consultant for the Carnegie International and 2010 for the 29th Bienal de São Paulo.
