He has worked at the gallery since 2001
Sam Orlofsky, a director at Gagosian gallery in New York, has been fired following an investigation into claims of misconduct. Orlofsky has worked with the gallery since 2001.
Founder Larry Gagosian wrote to staff notifying them that an unnamed ‘colleague’ had their contract terminated as part of an inquiry – the investigation, which is still ongoing, is being carried out by ‘outside counsel’
The letter, seen by ArtReview, said that the inquiry concerned ‘claims from current and former employees that a colleague engaged in serious misconduct, primarily targeted against women in the Gallery.’ Gagosian said that based on the investigative findings so far, the gallery had ‘terminated the individual’s employment.’
Orlofsky was suspended without pay last month following the emergence of misconduct allegations on social media. ‘I want to first emphasize emphatically that the behavior alleged is unacceptable and repugnant’, Gagosian wrote to staff. ‘The Gallery expects all employees to adhere to our values, which include mutual respect, dignity, collaboration, and honesty.’
