Last week Art Cologne announced that due to scheduling difficulties at the Koelnmesse convention hall, its 2017 edition will take place from 28 April – 1 May, therefore clashing with Berlin’s Gallery Weekend annual dates, artnet reports. As Germany’s oldest and largest art fair, Art Cologne has traditionally taken place earlier in the month, which has until now, allowed market participants to be present at both major events. Berlin galleries have shown a preference to attend Gallery Weekend over Art Cologne – many of which the latter relies on participating. The pressure is on Cologne’s director Daniel Hug to find a resolution that won’t leave the art fair short on galleries and visitors.
