A large stainless public sculpture about to be unveiled in Karamay, north-west China, that bears a striking resemblance to Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate sculpture, installed in Chicago in 2006, has prompted Kapoor to complain of plagiarism, the BBC reports. According to People’s Daily Online the Karamay sculpture represents a giant ‘oil bubble’, in acknowledgement of the first oil well built in the town on that site.
Cloud Gate is also known by its nickname ‘the bean’.
