Jay Sanders, currently curator at the Whitney Museum, will be replacing Stefan Kalmár (recently appointed director of London’s Institute of Contemporary Art) as the new executive director and chief curator of New York’s Artists Space, Artnews reports. Sanders has worked with the Whitney Museum since 2012; during his time there, he helped to reshape the museum’s performance programme, commissioning new works and exhibitions. One of the last shows he is expected to oversee will be Calder: Hypermobility (opening 9 June). David Joselit and Eleanor Cayre, the co-chairs of Artists Space’s executive search committee, said in a joint statement : ‘Jay Sanders has the vision, energy, and sense of adventure that Artists Space demands, combined with great depth of critical insight and a wide-ranging knowledge of contemporary art…We could not have hoped to recruit a more brilliant executive director to carry forward this essential institution.’
Sanders will start his new role at the non-profit organisation in April.
